Delta’s natural areas provided no shortage of inspiration for local photographers this Earth Day.
On May 6, Mayor George Harvie recognized the winners of Delta’s 16th annual Earth Day Photo Contest during that afternoon’s regular meeting of council, presenting them with prizes and certificates recognizing their work exploring this year’s theme of “Natural Areas.”
Nearly 200 people submitted photos across three age-based categories — Child (ages 5-12), Youth (ages 13-17) and Adult (ages 18 and over). Three winners were picked in each category plus a Grand Prize winner, and residents could vote for their “Fan Favourite” April 5-14 via the city’s Let’s Talk Delta platform.
“Participants were also invited to share with us how natural areas positively impact their life. We heard that natural areas in Delta boost energy and happiness, bring joy and peace, improve health and well-being, and add so much beauty to all our lives,” Harvie said on last week’s council meeting.
“Thank you to everyone who submitted a photo, voted for your ‘Fan Favourite’ and shared how natural areas in our great City of Delta impact your life. It is tremendous to see residents and staff celebrating Earth Day. Congratulations to all this year’s Earth Day Photo Contest winners on behalf of council.”
