It’s a great time of year to enjoy a baseball game at a local community park, and the White Rock Tritons are hoping Semiahmoo Peninsula residents and sports fans of all ages are ready to embrace baseball season.
The Tritons’ Senior (18U) team, who play in the BC Premier Baseball League (BCPBL), just won a double-header at their home diamond at South Surrey Athletic Park Saturday (April 20), beating the Abbotsford Cardinals 5-0 in Game 1 and 11-6 in Game 2.
Junior (16U) and Bantam Tritons (15U) are also busy playing, with far fewer cancellations this season compared to last year, when rainy weather forced the cancellation of six games in a row for the senior squad.
“There’s only been one cancellation so far,” White Rock Tritons general manager and junior team coach Jordan Broatch said, noting he was on the road for the junior team’s season opener, but the junior and senior teams both held successful home openers in South Surrey.
“The hot dogs smelled good, and the fans were enjoying the atmosphere…It’s been a great start to the season for sure.
“The weather has been very co-operative with the vibes at the park.”

With 16 Bantam players, 17 Junior and 21 Senior players, the club is ready for a busy baseball season, with the Senior Tritons set to travel to Kamloops for the Best of the West tournament next week (May 1 to 5).
After that, the senior squad will co-host the Langley Blaze Invitational, or LBI, from June 5 to 9, as well as the provincial camp July 2-4, which will feature the top 40 players in the province.
Junior and Bantam Tritons will also co-host a Western Canada Showcase tournament from June 20 to 23, Broatch said.
“We really like the group we have right now. We’re just focusing on the development of each player and the goals that they want to reach, and encourage them to just be good characters of the community.”
He added that baseball fans of all ages are welcome at every game.
“There’s going to be some really good talent and really good baseball coming through South Surrey Athletic Park this year,” Broatch said.
“We encourage families, young kids, seniors – anyone in the community –to come to the ballpark, have a hot dog and enjoy the ball game.”
