New for 2023, a beer company-sponsored festival will welcome some popular rock bands to a pair of stages at a Delta park at the end of summer.
The Sheepdogs, 54-40, The Roadhammers, Dear Rouge and The Zolas are some of the artists booked to play Barnside Harvest Festival, a three-day event Sept. 15-17 at Ladner’s Paterson Park, at Highway 17A and Ladner Truck Road.
Once the site of a horse track, the park now features an off-leash area for dogs on the western half. The eastern portion of the park is owned by Kwantlen Polytechnic University.
OK’d by Delta council, Barnside Brewing’s new festival will feature live music on Main and Market stages, a market, food trucks, a charity barbecue to benefit Delta Firefighters Charitable Society, a corn roast and more.
Announced Monday (May 29), the music lineup will also include Jesse Roper, Warren Dean Flandez, Eagles tribute band Take it to the Limit, Raincity, Jordan Klassen, Kytami, Eagle Ex-Machina and others.
Capacity for the event site is 2,200 at one time, organizers say.
Sunday will be a dog-friendly day at the festival, with Paw Pals Electric Picnic including agility areas, musical mats and a pet parade. Music will be played by DJ jaXon Hawks from JR-FM, Larry Hennessey (JACK-FM) and DJ/percussionist Bobby James.
Delta residents are given first crack at buying tickets on the festival website, barnsideharvestfest.com, where the general public can buy starting Thursday (June 1). Options include single-day, full-weekend and VIP passes. Kids 10 and under are free but will require a ticket for entry. Limited on-site parking will be $10.
The festival will include a site-wide liquor licence “to showcase Delta’s finest farm fresh craft beer, local wines and ciders, and farm focused non-alcoholic options,” according to a news release.
A Farm & Artisan Market will include local produce and “Chill Check” refrigerated containers for use during the concerts.
Ken Malenstyn, general manager of Ladner-based Barnside, called the festival “a new major event for our region” at the Ladner park.
“Thanks to the tremendous support from (Delta) Mayor and Council, city staff and community organizations, we’re planning to deliver an extensive festival experience in our very first year,” Malenstyn said in a news release.
“It’s important for us to support our community in an innovative manner by promoting Delta’s family farms and celebrating the harvest of locally grown food with music, food fun and, of course, farm-fresh beer.”
The festival will operate Friday, Sept. 15 from 4 to 10 p.m., on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
